|

Uugghh! I finally finished my website. Well, maybe not FINISHED, but posted. I know I am going to change things.
The one thing is, the pages have a loading lag. What can I do about that?
Anyway, check it out. Give me your opinions and don't sweat it be brutal. I can take it.
Thanks,
Gabe Seright

| I need to add more work. The only images that I have are in the portfolio. In the logos page and the Illustrations page. The thumbnails in the headers bring up the images. I didnt want to have them come up in their own windows, because some people find it annoying. I want to get the pro version so that I can make galleries. |

| I work on a mac with a 21.5 inch display and I found that my site cant really be viewed properly on a PC monitor. What is the best size for a website to be? I was told that 800X600 is the normal dimension. What dimensions do you guys do your sites in? |

| I have just graduated from art institute with a degree in web design and have learned, since new tech. has made so many get bigger screens so I use anywhere from 800x950 to 1200, then leave the height blank so it will grow with the content. I have a pc and have the SG pro with no problems at all on any size site. You are a great design artists by the way, and enjoyed your site. Keep up the good work. Donna |

Thank you for your comments Donna. How do you leave the height blank? I didn't know that you could leave the height blank when making a document.
this is my second try at making a website. I have used Dreamweaver and I felt that it was kind of unwieldy for a non-designer. So when SG came along I did some research and decided that I would give it a try. I am really looking forward to getting pro.
Thanks again for your comments.

| Sorry, I didn't make myself very clear. You can leave the doc blank for height in Dreamweaver, no SG. Sorry. But, if you needed a doc like that, you can take the SG doc and put it in DW to make adjustments. In the case of making it free to go as long as you want, then try creating a doc in SG with a width and height but tweek it in DW, see if it works. Good luck, Donna |

What do you mean, can't be viewed properly? A monitor is a monitor, no matter if it is Mac or PC.
Dimensions vary a bit based on what the client or designer prefers, but one easy way to see this is to take screen shots of various websites that have fixed widths (your 'Print Screen' keyboard button).
Now open a New document in PS. Now past in the screen shot. Now take the 'Measure' tool in PS and drag it across the width of the website in the screen shot. You will see the width in pixels in your Info panel.
Seems like a lot of main stream sites are anywhere from 850 - 950 pixels.
There are some sites that are designed to fill 100% of browser windows too.
Plus some designers use a script to detect the resolution of a person's browser, and then it loads the website for that resolution (e.g., 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x1040), the only problem with that approcah is that the designer has to actually build the site 3 (or more) times....a separate build specifically for each resolution. For most people that is too much work and maintenance. |

Looks good..
The only issue I see.. and I'm new to this so don't know how you fix it...
Your content moves with the size of the page... If the browser page isn't big enough then the top part of your site is cropped off until I drag my browser page bigger.... Normally the top of a site is always visible and it's the bottom you need to scroll to fit... Maybe that's the -grow hint? Or the affixed feature? Not sure... |

You are using Center Horizontal and Vertical.
Vertical centering is "true" and if the browser window is too small, the page is centered perfectly in the middle, meaning the top and bottom will probably get cut off.
Center Horizontal and Vertical should only be used when your design is relatively short, like 500 pixels tall (no taller than 600).
Use Center Horizontal only and you'll be fine. |
