Windows Instructions
On Windows you should be downloading a zipped installer application. Unzip and run the .exe. It will attempt to locate your Photoshop plug-ins folder. If necessary, you can guide it to your Photoshop plug-ins folder yourself.* Then complete the install and launch Photoshop.

Mac Instructions
On Mac, you'll download a .zip which unzips to a Disk Image (.dmg). That should mount as if it were a second hard drive, but you may have to double click the .dmg. In the window of that "hard drive" is the installer application icon. Double click it to launch the installer. It should find your Photoshop plug-ins folder, but if necessary you can guide it there yourself.* Complete the installation. Launch Photoshop. (See Below for Mac Specific Troubleshooting.)

Where to Find SiteGrinder in Photoshop
After installation, you'll find SiteGrinder under Photoshop's File->Automate menu. A common mistake is to look for SiteGrinder in the Filters menu. (Photoshop only sees new plugins when Photoshop is launching, which is why the installer will ask you to quit Photoshop before installing if it is running.)

What if SiteGrinder Does Not Appear in the File>Automate Menu?
If the SiteGrinder Plug-In isn't showing up in the File>Automate menu of Photoshop, there are a few things to double check:

  1. That you have the correct version of SiteGrinder for your version of Photoshop and platform. Download the latest version here: http://www.medialab.com/sitegrinder/download.php.

Note: For Mac there are two different download options, depending on what version of Photoshop you have. One is for Photoshop 7, CS, CS2 and Photoshop Elements 3 and 4. The other is for Photoshop CS3, CS4 and Photoshop Elements 6.

Note: Some users have reported that after upgrading Photoshop or Photoshop Elements from a previous version the new version of Photoshop or Elements is incorrectly set to look for plug-ins in the old version's plug-ins folder.

  2. Verify that the SiteGrinder installer put SiteGrinder in the correct plugin folder. This is sometimes an issue if you have more than one version of Photoshop or have recently upgraded. The Mac installer will populate a list of available plug-in folders if there are more than one, so make sure you select the correct one. If the correct one doesn't appear, you can manually point the the Mac or Windows installer to the correct folder. You can verify (*See Note Below).
  3. Vista Users Only. SiteGrinder is compatible with CS4 on Windows Vista, however you will need to run Vista in 32-bit mode in order to use SiteGrinder. If you are running in 64-bit mode, SiteGrinder will not appear in the File>Automate Menu.
  4. Make sure you only installed SiteGrinder once. If you have installed any plug-in into multiple plug-ins folders at the same time Photoshop may not behave properly.
  5. Restart Photoshop. On restarting, Photoshop will scan for new plugins, and SiteGrinder should be found.

Mac Specific Troubleshooting
On the Mac there can sometimes be issues running the installer with incorrect user permissions. Sometimes this requires changing your computer settings, or it may require a manual install. View this page for detailed instructions:

*How to Locate Your Photoshop Plug-In Folder
In some cases you will need to manually point the installer to the correct plug-in folder. This usually occurs if you have recently upgraded your version of Photoshop (for example, from CS3 to CS4), and you still have the older version program files on your machine. When you run the installer, make sure to double check the path to the plug-in folder to ensure that the installer has chosen the correct plug-in folder for the version of Photoshop you will be using. If the install path is pointing to an old plug-ins folder, or the install path field is blank, you will need to manually point the installer to the correct plug-in folder.

On Windows, the path to the Photoshop Plug-In folder is as follows:
C:/Program Files/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop [version]/Plug-Ins

On Mac, the path is:
~Applications/Adobe Photoshop [version]/Plug-In

You can also designate an additional plug-ins folder wherever you like using Photoshop's "Plug-Ins and Scratch Disks" preferences panel.  SiteGrinder can be installed into this folder, but not if it is already installed in the default plug-ins folder.
