Introduction

The next-button and prev-button hints are part of SiteGrinder Pro's powerful automatic image gallery creation system.

Click here for a complete overview of this system and its many options.

Galleries and other collections of sequential pages often employ buttons for forward and backward navigation from the current page. Using the next-button and prev-button hints you can make text, graphic, and layer set buttons that will automatically link to the correct page from whatever page they appear on. In this way you will not have to manually create buttons and links on each page of a sequential series.

These hints are a little different from most other SiteGrinder hints in that they must be the full names of their layers.

Aside from the automatic linking they act just like standard SiteGrinder buttons. A next-button, for example, can have an associated next-rollover and even multiple next-popups. The contents of the buttons, text or graphic, don't matter, only the layer names.

These hints can work within SiteGrinder Pro's image gallery system, but they can also function on their own. (see below)

Next-button and Prev-button Within Galleries

SiteGrinder Pro galleries consist of many pages of images generated from one or more template -gallery pages.

Placing a next-button and prev-button on a -gallery page with a -picturebox for displaying full sized gallery images creates automatic navigation from one image to the next or previous image. On the final page of a gallery SiteGrinder will automatically hide the next-button, and on the first page of a gallery SiteGrinder Pro will automatically hide the prev-button.

Placing a next-button and prev-button on a -gallery page with -thumb or -thumbsheet layers for displaying full sized gallery images creates automatic navigation from one page of thumbnails to the next or previous page of thumbnails. On the final page of thumbnails SiteGrinder will automatically hide the next-button, and on the first page of thumbnails SiteGrinder will automatically hide the prev-button.

When the gallery design places thumbnails and full sized images on the same page then these buttons jump from one image to another rather than from one page of thumbs to another.

Next-button and Prev-button Outside of Galleries

These two hints can be used to create auto-linked buttons on non-gallery pages as well. In this case the pages are linked in the order they appear in the SiteGrinder window's Pages panel. Layer comp pages appear in this list first, and they appear in the same order as in the layer comps palette. (This order is adjustable by clicking and draggin in Photoshop's layer comps palette.)

Cloned pages appear after layer comp pages.

Next and prev functionality with any button or menu item

SiteGrinder Pro will auto link text menu items named "next" and "prev" as described above.

In addition, any button or menu item can be given next and prev functionality using the SiteGrinder Pro window's Button panel.

Moving between thumbnail pages

Nextset-button and prevset-button work much like next-button and prev-button, but are used to move between pages of thumbnails instead of from image to image.
