Introduction
The -nomerge hint tells SiteGrinder to not auto-merge the layer or layer set/group with other layers during the build.
What's the Point?
Each separate image on a page requires a web browser to make a separate request from the web server.
Because of this, SiteGrinder tries to minimize the number of graphic files it creates from your design in order to speed up download times.
In SiteGrinder 1 you could force SiteGrinder to merge a number of elements in a layer set/group by using the -merge hint. This no longer necessary.
SiteGrinder 2 Basic & Pro now intelligently merges non-interactive layers automatically when it builds pages.
Use this hint if you want to guarantee that an image is not auto-merged with others.
Reasons you might want a layer not to be merged:
- You may want to apply a unique compression setting to that layer
- You may wish to move or modify the graphic after building
- SiteGrinder's merging system is doing something unwise with this layer and you want it to stop
