Using the Least Squares Formulae

Using the totals from the previous page, shown again on the right, we can calculate the slope of the regression line:

b = 167/218

b (slope) = 0.766
We can also calculate the y intercept of the regression line:
17=0.766(14) + a
17= a + 10.724
17 - 10.7.24 = a
6.276 = a
Therefore, the least squares regression line is:
y = 0.766 x + 6.276
