Safe Driving

Couriers must have a good, blemish-free driving record. It will be checked before any offer of employment is made to work as a courier. You will need to show proof of having a valid (state) driver’s license.
Couriers are expected to observe all local and state driving rules and regulations.
  • Wear eyeglasses or contact lenses if required on your license.
  • Always wear your seat belt.
  • Never pick up hitchhikers.
  • Do not offer rides to anyone unless approved or requested by your supervisor.
  • Observe the speed limit at all times.
  • Always come to a complete stop at a red stop light or stop sign.
  • Turn right on red, only when and where allowed, AFTER coming to a complete stop.
  • Your speed should allow for stops when the traffic light is changing from green to yellow to red.
  • Never speed up through a yellow light.
  • Always look ahead and to both sides before resuming driving when your red light has changed to green.
  • Never tailgate. Keep a safe distance both in front and back when in traffic.
  • Never text message while driving. If you must use your cell phone and do not have a Bluetooth™ -- pull off the road to a safe place to make or take your calls.
  • Alert other drivers when turning by using your turn signals.
  • Change lanes only when safe.
  • Keep your eye on the drivers ahead and in back of you. Gauge your speed appropriately.
  • Use your horn with discretion – but do use it when necessary.
  • Watch for school buses and know your local laws.
  • If you have an accident, report it immediately to your supervisor and to the local authorities. Follow their instructions to the letter.
  • Know where your driver's license and automobile registration are located. Always have them readily available, along with pertinent insurance information.
As a courier, do not allow yourself to fall into any of the following situations:
  • Road rage - Take a deep breath and think before you speak. You never want to antagonize an already angry driver.
  • Aggressive driving - You need to keep your car and your emotions under control at all times.
  • Driving under the influence - It is illegal to drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs at a level that impairs the driver, making them incapable of operating a motor vehicle safely. Driving under the influence is usually cause for immediate termination.
