Other Cardiac Risk Markers

There are over two dozen 'novel cardiac risk markers' that are sometimes marketed to patients and physicians. These tend to be more general markers of inflammation that correlate with cardiovascular risk. Whether these markers truly provide additional risk prediction over standard lipid panels is debatable. Health insurance companies consider many of these markers 'research use only'. A list of some of the markers is below. In this course we will devote some time to hsCRP since this is the most common marker among those listed below.
  • hsCRP
  • Apo A/B ratio
  • Lp(a)
  • Homocysteine
  • NMR lipoprotein particle size
  • LDL density
  • Fibrinogen
  • Interleukin-6
  • Lp-PLA2
