HBV Transmission

Outside of the healthcare setting, HBV is spread most often:
  • Through shared needles used to inject drugs
  • Through sexual contact
  • From mother to child before or during birth
The amount of blood needed to cause HBV infection is very small. One milliliter of blood contains up to 100 million infectious particles.
HBV can also survive outside of the body for seven days.
