In previous exercises, we examined the formed elements of the urine sediment, including casts, cells, crystals, and miscellaneous structures. Sometimes elements in the urine sediment may be confused with other elements that have some similarities. The following pages discuss some of these elements and how they can be distinguished from a similar element to provide accurate identification.
