Pharmacogenomics (usually abbreviated PGx) is the study of how variations in the human genome affect a given individual's response to medications. It refers to how administered drugs will affect specific patients, given their genetic makeup. Since there are many different genetic mutations and polymorphisms that can affect genes transcribing drug-metabolizing enzymes, different people often respond to the same drug differently.
