Technician Qualifications

All applicants for the technician level in Microbiology, Serology/Immunology, Clinical Chemistry, Hematology and Immunohematology must
  • Complete a Board approved course in medical errors
  • Complete a Board approved course in HIV/AIDS
  • Pass a national certifying exam approved by the Board at the technician level
In addition, at least one of the following requirements must be met:
  1. Complete an approved medical lab technology training program at the technician level
  2. High school or equivalency diploma + five years lab experience within ten years prior to application
  3. Associate degree + four years lab experience within ten years prior to application
  4. Bachelors degree + three years lab experience within ten years prior to application
Applicants for the technician level for the five categories above are licensed as a generalist only. There are other specialty categories available for technician level license. Consult 64B3 for specific category(ies) requirements.
