Medical Mushroom Supplements

There are numerous mushroom supplements on the market claiming health benefits such as immune support, anti-tumor action, stabilization of blood sugar, improvement of skin quality, plus support of mental clarity and concentration just to name a few. For centuries, mushrooms have been used the world over for medicinal purposes. While limited research done to date does suggest possible value, caution is in order. Such factors as small sample size, lack of replication, mushroom variability, and problematic statistical methods make it difficult to definitively evaluate any research results or market claims. It is important to remember that many herbs and nutraceuticals may affect results in a number of laboratory tests. The interaction of mushrooms and other herbal supplements with prescription medications is poorly understood and in need of investigation.
