Normal RBCs

The normal RBC is often described as a biconcave disc. The center of the red cell is thinner than the edge. When a normal RBC is flattened on a microscope slide and stained, it has a diameter of 6-9 microns and a pale center area surrounded by a buff- or pink-stained rim. The pale center area, called the central pallor, normally occupies about one-third of the cell diameter.
