Lymphocytes

This slide is a cytospin preparation of a cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). The arrows point to slightly activated normal lymphocytes. The cytoplasm is pastel blue and non-granular, identical to what one would expect to see in slightly viral peripheral lymphocytes.
Note the nuclear chromatin texture and staining. The chromatin in these lymphocytes is a bit looser than the chromatin of a normal lymphocyte on a peripheral blood smear, but it has the same clumped appearance that is characteristic of normal lymphocytes.
