ABO HDFN: Expected Findings

Diagnosis of ABO HDFN is supported by these findings:

  1. ABO incompatibility between mother and child, with mother typically group O
  2. Negative maternal antibody screen 
  3. Weakly positive or negative cord DAT
  4. Newborn hyperbilirubinemia with jaundice occurring in the first 24 hours
  5. Increased spherocytes and reticulocytosis in the newborn
  6. Presence of IgG anti-A or anti-B in cord plasma/serum
