Paracoccidioides brasiliensis

Large, round or oval, multiply-budding yeast cells (resembling a "mariner's wheel) may be observed in sputum, mucosal biopsy, and other exudates. Arrows in the image on the right point to examples of P. brasiliensis yeast forms.
Organisms are commonly recovered from culture within 5-25 days, most often within 10-15 days.
Paracoccidioidomycosis
Paracoccidioidomycosis affects skin, mucous membranes, and the pulmonary system. This pathogen is commonly found in South America, although infections have been reported in Mexico, Central America, and Africa. P. brasiliensis is most likely present in soil in the endemic areas and contracted when eating vegetation that was grown in that soil.
