Variation in the Shape of Bacilli

Bacilli may vary in size and shape. Some are long and thin while others may be more oval in shape. Coccobacilli are very short rods. In addition, the ends of rod-shaped organisms can be rounded, squared off, tapered, or sharply pointed.
