Tube Mixing

Most evacuated blood collection tubes require that the tubes be inverted several times to fully mix the blood with either the anticoagulant or the clot-activating agents. Smooth, gentle inversion is adequate to accomplish this task. Shaking or rapidly inverting the tubes must be avoided to prevent hemolysis.
