Hyperthyroidism: Incidence and Risk

The prevalence of hyperthyroidism is far lower than hypothyroidism in the general population. Similar to hypothyroidism, the preponderance is skewed heavily toward females. 

Incidence of hyperthyroidism
  • 0.3% - 0.6% of general population
At-risk population for hyperthyroidism
  • Female to male ratio - 5:1
  • Over age 60
  • Other autoimmune disorders
