Illness and Symptoms: Naegleria fowleri

The progression of primary amoebic meningoencephalitis caused by N. fowleri is rapid, with death often occurring within a week after the onset of symptoms. As a consequence, the prognosis is poor with a mortality rate of approximately 95%. Some of the more prominent early symptoms are listed in the chart, as well as symptoms that occur during the acute phase.
