Frequent hand hygiene is one of the most important measures that you can take to help control the spread of infections.
Hands should be cleaned:
- As soon as gloves or other PPE are removed
- Before and after direct patient contact
- After using the toilet
- Before eating or drinking
- Anytime hands are contaminated
- Upon completion of required tasks performed in any area not pre-designated as a clean area
- Before any activities in which hand contact is made with mucous membranes, the eyes, or breaks in the skin (eg, cuts, abrasions, wounds)
- Before handling an invasive device
- After contact with inanimate objects in the immediate vicinity of the patient
