Your Responsibility

There are many job classifications within the healthcare industry. Your risk of exposure to chemicals may be greater in certain areas, such as the laboratory or emergency room. However, almost all healthcare facility departments utilize compounds containing potentially hazardous chemicals, tanks containing compressed gasses, or other chemicals posing hazards according to the HCS. Regardless of your role as a healthcare employee, you should:

  • Read the manufacturers' labels and SDS, and follow the instructions and warnings.
  • Access pertinent safety information through your supervisor, educator, or manager.
  • Contact your supervisor if you are concerned that something is a potential hazard, either in the facility or in your work procedures.
