Other tests that the medical director might order would be related to the symptoms reported. Tests that are commonly ordered in the case of possible AHTR include:
- Bilirubin
- Haptoglobin
- Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH)
When any testing indicates that the patient may be experiencing an AHTR or has been transfused with a bacterially contaminated unit, the patient's physician and the transfusion medical director must be notified immediately.
When all testing is complete, the medical director reviews all of the results and makes a final conclusion in a written report.
